London Wing parade as part of historic parade at North Weald Airfield to commemorate the start of the Battle of Britain.
London Wing have attended a Sunset Ceremony at North Weald Airfield to commemorate the Battle of Britain. The Parade which took place on Sunday 12 July was attended by over 40 London Wing Cadets and Staff who made up both a Marching Contingent and were part of the London and South East Region Band.
London Wing joined personnel from the Royal Air Force, the Royal British Legion and the Royal Air Forces Association on the parade. It was also the first time that almost all London Wing Squadron banners were on parade.
WO (ATC) Ivor Thomas, London Wing Warrant Officer commented on the parade and said “it’s an absolute honour for the Wing to be asked to commemorate the Battle of Britain alongside ‘the few’ and the RAF”.
The parade concluded with a sunset ceremony and Spitfire Fly Past. Flt Lt Steph Godwin, London and South East Region Bands Officer said that the “parade marked a milestone in British history. Giving the young people from London the opportunity to play and take part in the parade alongside serving personnel and veterans was a truly unique experience”
