On Saturday 17th of September the wing formed up on the parade square at Woolwich Barracks for the annual Field Day competition. This year saw 241 (Wanstead and Woodford) Squadron take the top position having entered every category and perform well in each.
There are 12 categories which squadrons can enter, all of which are judged impartially and add up to create the overall lead table.
This year’s photographic competition saw the following three photos score top in their categories.
Aircraft – Wingman by Flt Lt Vik Singh – 282 (East Ham) Squadron
The ACO and it’s people – Moment to Remember – Cpl Othneil – 1921 (Lewisham) Squadron
Selfies – Spitfire Selfie – Cpl Acharya – 56 (Woolwich) Squadron
The music performances from all categories were fantastic and it’s fair to say that we have a very talented bunch of cadets across the wing.
The musical winners are as follows:-
Solo Drummer – 48F (Hampstead) Squadron
Solo Buglar – 48F (Hampstead) Squadron
Ensemble – 1475 (Dulwich) Squadron
Fanfare – 241 (Wanstead and Woodford) Squadron
Percussion – 282 (East Ham) Squadron
Full Band – 282 (East Ham) Squadron
Next up was aircraft recognition – won by 241 (Wanstead and Woodford) Squadron, displaying a talent applicable across other fields. And of a similar nature was the aero modelling competition, won by 282 (East Ham) and 329 (Finsbury) Squadrons with a tie.
The drill competition is seen by main event and is often rehearsed for months. This year’s drill competition was won by 12F (Walthamstow and Leyton) Squadron by only one point – well done 12F!
And so the day closed with London Wing on Parade before Air Commodore Lushington, Group Captain Lewis, and Lt Colonel Bolam. The enormous parade square saw the wing parade before Air Commodore Lushington, who received the salute following the review of the wing in company with wing staff. The day sees those who scored highly sent off to the Region Field Day and we wish our representatives the best of luck.
